Arsenal evening headlines as Bellerin defends Arteta, Keown on the Gunners Rolls-Royce – Football.London

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Friday, December 4.

Bellerin on Arteta’s future

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has jumped to the defence of his manager Mikel Arteta, saying speculation over his future is ‘so unjust’.

The Gunners have lost five times from 10 games so far in the Premier League this season, with some rumours over Arteta’s future mounting, but his right-back has stuck up for him.

Speaking to beIN Sports, Bellerin said: “So unjust. So unjust. As I say, we have to, as players, take responsibility for this because I think we all know that Mikel and his coaching team give us all the tools that we need to win all the games.

“When you lose a game it’s always very easy to blame the coach. But also when the coach gives us the tools we have to be the ones to step up.

“The way that Mikel plans these games… all the knowledge that they give us before we step on to the pitch is second to none. Sometimes it’s not that easy, depending on the opponent, but that’s why football is beautiful. If you play the games on the [tactics] board, then it will be a completely different game.”

Arteta reveals what Maitland-Niles needs to do to start vs Spurs

Arteta has been speaking about Ainsley Maitland-Niles and what he needs to do in order to secure a starting place against Tottenham at the weekend.

The 23-year-old has mostly been used as a full-back under Arteta but impressed in a central midfield role in Thursday evening’s victory over Rapid Vienna in the Europa League.

When asked what Maitland-Niles needs to do to start in Sunday’s grudge match against Spurs, the Arsenal boss said: “What he’s done today.

“The great thing with Ainsley is that he can fill various positions and that’s a great thing to have around the squad. He’s played on the left as a wing back, he’s played on the right, he’s played as a holding midfielder, he can play as an attacking midfielder.

“And again, the sort of performances tonight helps, and he has a chance to play like everybody else.”

Keown singles out Gunners player

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has singled out the aforementioned Maitland-Niles for his performance in Thursday night’s win over Rapid Vienna in the Europa League.

The England international caught the eye in a position where Gunners fans haven’t seen too much of him, and Keown was quick to recognise this.

Speaking on BT Sport, the ex-Arsenal centre-back said: “He impressed me, it looks so easy for him at times and you can tell he’s got gears. You rarely get a player with his pace in that role. I would have loved that as a player. He’s a Rolls-Royce of a player at times.

“There’s quality there, he’s growing and getting better every time I see him. I think he’s ready for that central position.”
